Ernesto Catena, Tahuan Malbec (2017)

Style:  Full-bodied Red                     Vintage: 2017                         ABV: 13.5%

Appellation: Mendoza                     Varietal: Malbec

Region: Mendoza                             County:  Argentina

Pairings: Swordfish steak with mango chutney; pineapple teriyaki salmon with orange zest; garlic, honey, and Malbec-marinated savory smoked duck; turkey tacos carnitas; grilled sirloin steak with mushroom cream sauce; pesto pepper steak; Norwegian meatballs with cream sauce.

Avoid pairing with bitter greens, they will make the wine taste bitter. Fishy fish with Malbec will leave the fish lingering on your palate and make the wine taste like a tin can. High acid foods like vinaigrette salads will make  the wine taste flat.

Cheese Pairings: Manchego Reserve; Extra Aged Gouda; English Farmhouse Cheddar; Hickory and Maple Smoked Vermont Cheddar; Shropshire Bleu; Maytag Bleu

About This Wine: Ruby red with purple hues, intense notes of fresh red fruit such as plums, cherries, blackberries and currants, flavors consistent with the characteristics of this varietal seduce the mouth. With every sip it unleashes its full potential of wonderfully balanced acidity, fruit and a hint of oak combining silky tannins with an elegant structure and a long finish.
