It is not every day that you find a Chateauneuf-du-Pape that leads with acidity over its tannin and extraction; the main cuvée of the domaine is just that. Two-thirds of the blend comes from Grenache vines that are older than 50 years. The difference, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault are a strong supporting cast that compliments the finesse of the Grenache. The old-vine Grenache is made in concrete tanks to preserved freshness, while the Syrah and Mourvedre spend time in barrel to soften their structure to more closely match the finesse of the Grenache. The result is a wine that is supple in his youth with no excessive tannins and alcohol but enough acidity and structure to guarantee a great ageing potential. The only downside to this wine is that it is too easy to be drunk and you risk losing the opportunity to really understand the hidden depth of this wine that can only be revealed with patience in the glass.
